About Our Socialization Training

Proper socialization is one of the most critical factors in raising a confident, well-adjusted dog. Dogs that aren't adequately socialized during their developmental windows — and even throughout adult life — often grow up fearful, anxious, or aggressive toward people, other animals, and unfamiliar environments. At Sit Means Sit Westchester, we take socialization seriously at every stage of a dog's life.

Signs of Poor Socialization

Poorly socialized dogs often display predictable warning signs that their social development needs attention:

• Fearful or aggressive reactions toward unfamiliar people
• Difficulty or fighting with other dogs
• Extreme anxiety in new environments or on car rides
• Inability to settle at the vet, groomer, or in public spaces
• Excessive barking, hiding, or cowering around normal stimuli
• Overreaction to everyday sounds, sights, and surfaces

Group Classes Reinforce Socialization

One of the most powerful tools for socialization is our lifetime group classes. Group settings give your dog regular, structured exposure to other dogs and unfamiliar people — two of the most common sources of social anxiety and fear. Our trainers supervise every interaction to ensure experiences are positive and confidence-building rather than overwhelming. All of our training packages include lifetime group class access at our Valhalla facility, giving your dog ongoing opportunities to practice their social skills throughout their life.
